What Thingyan marks
Thingyan (သင်္ကြန်) is the Myanmar New Year Water Festival, usually in mid-April. The name comes from a word for “transition”: the sun’s move that closes one Myanmar Era year and opens the next. Water throwing, merit-making and public holidays sit around four named stages, then New Year Day.
- Akyo (သင်္ကြန်အကြို) — eve, the day before Akya.
- Akya (အကျ) — descent of Thagyamin; festival proper begins. This page also gives the Akya clock time.
- Akyat (အကြတ်) — intervening day. Some years have a second Akyat day.
- Atat (အတက်) — ascent day, with the Atat clock time.
- New Year Day (နှစ်ဆန်းတစ်ရက်) — the day after Atat (Hnit San Ta Yet).

If Atat falls more than two days after Akya, a second Akyat day is inserted. The table adds that row only when it applies.
